The promise

Every street has a story.
Almost nobody is there to tell it.

You round a corner into a sunlit square, a façade catching gold, fado drifting from a doorway — and it passes by unexplained. Most places have no plaque, no guide, no one to lean in and say here's why this matters.

travltime turns any walk into a guided one. Search a city, a sleepy backstreet, the village you grew up in — and a warm voice walks beside you, narrating each stop, grounded in real facts, ready to answer whatever catches your eye. No booking, no schedule, no rush. Just the story of the ground beneath your feet, the moment you arrive.

Plaza in Lisbon, Portugal

Praça do Comércio

Narrated · ~57 sec

“You begin where Lisboa meets the water, in the vast, open embrace of the Praça do Comércio — though locals still call it the Terreiro do Paço. Stand a moment and let the scale settle over you: one of the largest plazas in all of Portugal, harbour-facing, the threshold where the city greeted the river Tagus and, beyond it, the wider world.”

The riverside edge of Lisbon's Baixa where the vanished Ribeira Palace once stood, the Tagus glinting beyond.

Ribeira Palace

Narrated · ~58 sec

“Drift toward the riverside edge of the square, and imagine the ground beneath your feet bearing the weight of a vanished palace. For some two hundred and fifty years, the Ribeira Palace stood here as the main residence of the Kings of Portugal — rebuilt and reshaped again and again, from the ornate Manueline manner through Mannerist and finally Baroque forms.”

Lisbon City Hall

Narrated · ~57 sec

“Step back to take in its neoclassical façade, composed and dignified. Your eye is meant to climb to the central balcony, crowned by a large pediment carrying sculptures by the artist Calmels, while four round oculi punctuate the front like watchful eyes — civic government given a face of beauty and permanence.”

The triumphal Rua Augusta Arch on the Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, six columns crowned by an allegorical sculptural group.

Rua Augusta Arch

Narrated · ~59 sec

“Our walk comes full circle, where the Rua Augusta Arch rises as a triumphant gateway. This grand stone monument was raised to commemorate Lisboa's reconstruction after the catastrophic earthquake of 1755 — crowned by an allegorical group by the French sculptor Célestin Anatole Calmels, depicting Glory rewarding Valor and Genius.”

Why travltime

Not your average audio tour

Old audio guides hand you the same recorded script for a handful of famous cities. This is a living guide — anywhere on earth, shaped to you, and grounded in real facts.

Works anywhere

Not a catalog of thirty cities. Any city, town, neighborhood, or back street on earth — your tour is generated on demand, the moment you search.

Grounded & accurate

Real facts, drawn from real sources and cited — never invented. Tap any claim to see where it came from. History you can trust.

A voice in your ears

Warm, natural narration as you walk — hands free, eyes up, no reading required. A guide right there with you, picking up the story at every corner.

Ask anything

Curious about that tiled façade or who lived behind it? Ask by voice or chat and get a grounded answer back — with images to match what you see.

Personalized to you

Into food, architecture, hidden history, or just a slow wander? Your tour bends to your interests, your time, and your pace — never a one-size-fits-all script.

Turn-by-turn

It knows where you are and where the story goes next — gently pointing the way from stop to stop, so you keep your eyes on the street, not on a map.

You asked

"Why are so many buildings covered in tiles?"

Grounded · cited

Those are azulejos — glazed ceramic tiles Lisbon embraced in the 16th century, after the craft arrived from Seville. They were as practical as they were beautiful: they shrug off the Atlantic damp, throw back the harsh summer sun, and outlasted the great 1755 earthquake when plaster crumbled. Look up as we climb — every façade tells a slightly different story.

Ask anything

A guide who actually answers.

Curious about that tiled façade, the saint above the doorway, what's worth eating two streets over? Just ask — out loud or by typing — and your guide answers in the moment, with real facts and a picture to match. No tapping through menus. No guesswork.

Hands-free while you walk

Eyes up, phone in your pocket. Ask out loud and a warm voice replies — so you're watching the city, not a screen.

Or quietly by chat

On a packed tram or a silent gallery? Type instead. Same guide, same depth — and every answer can carry an image.

Grounded, never made up

Answers are drawn from real sources and cited — so what you hear is the true story of the street, not a confident guess.

Early wanderers

Loved by curious wanderers

The kind of walk where you slow down, look up, and finally hear the story the street has been keeping. Here's how it feels in their words.

I wandered into a town I'd never planned to visit and had a guide in my ears within a minute. It pointed out a doorway I'd have walked straight past — and then told me exactly why it mattered.

Does it work in my city?

Almost certainly. travltime isn't a fixed catalogue of thirty tourist cities — tours are generated on demand for any place that has streets and a story. A world capital, a seaside town, a single historic neighborhood, even the block you grew up on. Search it, and your guide builds a walk.

Naturally, somewhere with deep, well-documented history will have a richer tour than a brand-new suburb — but if there's something worth knowing, your guide will find it and tell you where it came from.

How accurate is the narration? Where do the facts come from?

This is the part we care about most. Your guide is grounded — every stop is built from real, retrieved sources rather than invented on the fly. We draw on encyclopedic references, public records, cultural and heritage archives, and reputable travel writing, then weave them into a story you'd actually want to hear.

Each claim carries its receipts: tap a stop or an answer and you can see the sources it was drawn from, so you can verify anything and read deeper if a place grabs you. If the record is thin or uncertain, your guide says so plainly instead of filling the gap with a tall tale.

Do I need internet while I'm walking?

Honestly? Generating a fresh tour and asking brand-new questions both need a connection — that's where the live grounding happens. So we won't pretend it's fully offline.

But we know walks happen in spotty-signal alleys and abroad on a tight data plan, so you can pre-load a tour before you set out — narration and stops downloaded and ready in your pocket. Once it's loaded, walking and listening keep working even when the bars don't. Deeper offline support for follow-up questions is on the roadmap.

Can I use it completely hands-free?

That's the whole idea — eyes up, phone away. Your guide narrates each stop straight into your ears, and when something catches your eye you can just ask out loud and get a spoken answer back. No squinting at a screen mid-stride, no thumbing through a map.

Prefer to keep it quiet on a busy street? Everything works as a chat too, so you can type a question and read the reply — with images — whenever voice isn't the moment.

What does it cost?

A fraction of a human guided tour — and it never rushes you or watches the clock. You'll be able to start free and wander a little on the house, with a subscription for unlimited tours, full voice narration, and ask-anything, plus a one-time option for a single city if you'd rather not subscribe.

Exact prices are still being set for launch — we'll mark everything clearly as beta pricing — TBD, and beta members help us land it somewhere fair. See the pricing tiers for the shape of it.

When does it launch — and how do I get into the beta?

We're in private beta right now, polishing the voice and the grounding before a wider release. iOS comes first, with Android close behind — both shown as "coming soon" until the stores go live.

Getting in is simple: join the beta waitlist with your email and we'll send an invite as spots open, earliest members first. No spam, no commitment — just an early seat for the curious.
